Chapter 114

Serenity hummed in response and kissed her nephew. “Do you want to go to kindergarten?” she asked.

“No,” the little guy replied, clearly enjoying the comfort of being with his mother.

Serenity smiled and turned to her sister. “Have you decided which kindergarten to send Sonny to? If you have, we could take him there on weekends to let him play and get familiar with the environment. It might make the transition easier for him.”

Liberty nodded in agreement. “That’s a good idea. There’s something else that’s been bothering me, though. Hank’s sister wants to transfer her two older children to the city for school, and she expects me to help with pick-ups, drop-offs, cooking, and tutoring. It’s like she thinks I’m a free babysitter.”

Liberty’s frustration was evident. “Hank even offered me an extra fifteen hundred dollars for food, saying it’s no different from raising one child since I’m already used to it. I’m willing to take care of my own child because I gave birth to him, but why should I be responsible for someone else’s kids?”

She continued, “He also said he’d transfer our house’s title deed to his sister so her kids can go to school nearby. What is he thinking? Once it’s transferred, how does he expect to get it back?”

Both Serenity and Jasmine were at a loss for words. They had heard about similar situations online, but it was shocking to hear it happening to Liberty.

Liberty took another sip of water and went on, “I told Hank that if he wants to transfer the house to his sister, he’ll need to cover the renovation costs. Otherwise, I’ll get nothing out of this. I spent four hundred thousand dollars renovating that house.”

She had invested all her savings into making their house a home. “If he doesn’t pay me back for the renovations, I’ll have to get a divorce to recover my money. Seren, could you help me find a place to rent? If Hank continues like this, our marriage might not last much longer.”

Liberty felt her husband’s growing indifference and avoidance. She was heartbroken and disheartened by the ongoing issues and his behavior. She began to consider life after a potential divorce, preparing herself for what might come next.

Since Hank had bought the house before their marriage, Liberty wouldn’t have a claim on it. However, she needed to recover the renovation costs. “I’m deeply disappointed in him,” Liberty said, her eyes reddened. “I thought I married a good man, but it turns out he’s not the person I thought he was.”

Despite the hardships the Hunt sisters had faced, Liberty felt her marriage to Hank had been a mistake. She was now grappling with the reality of having been deceived by someone she once trusted.
