Chapter 110

Zachary placed the packed food on Callum’s desk and said gruffly, “Serenity knows we’re working in the same company. She made extra for breakfast and asked me to bring some to you. It’s not healthy to eat out all the time.”

“You used to eat out all the time, Zack,” Callum replied. Although the meals were at their own hotel, it was still eating out. Putting down his cup of coffee, Callum eagerly opened one of the food containers. “I couldn’t stop thinking about Serenity’s cooking since I had it last Saturday.”

“Wow! Look at the variety, abundance, and presentation! I bet it tastes amazing.” Callum opened both containers, marveling at Serenity’s culinary skills. Not only was Serenity talented in crafts, but her cooking was impressive too. No wonder Nana took such a liking to Serenity and insisted on Zack marrying her—she was a blend of beauty, grace, and talent.

Seeing Callum’s delight, Zachary casually mentioned, “Serenity got up first thing in the morning and prepared this nutritious breakfast to thank me for helping her. I couldn’t finish it, so she packed some for you.”

Callum was momentarily speechless. He quickly grinned and said, “Surely Serenity only packed the food you hadn’t touched?”

Zachary fell silent. Had he known, he would have taken a few bites from everything. “Anything else, Zack?”

“What? Why are you rushing me out after I delivered food to you?” Zachary shot Callum a look, but his attention was drawn to a copper wire craft on the corner of the desk—a miniature tree.

Zachary picked up the craft for a closer look. “I think this art piece comes from the same artist as the ones Nana displayed at home.”

“Good eye,” Callum said as he began eating. “Serenity made it. She was stocking up on inventory when I dropped Nana off at the shop. She gave me this miniature copper tree.”

“Zack, it’s no wonder Nana likes Serenity so much. She’s really skilled with her hands. It’s like she breathes life into her creations. Everyone’s been admiring it since I put it up. They even bought some for themselves online.”

“I recommended Serenity’s online business to them. It should boost her sales.”

Zachary quietly placed the miniature tree back down and said faintly, “Enjoy your breakfast and get back to work after that. Don’t slack off.”

He turned to leave, but Callum called out with his mouth full, “Bye, Zack. See you around.”

Zachary stopped at the door, looked back at the miniature tree, but said nothing. He opened the door and left.

Callum, noticing Zachary’s fixation on the copper wire tree, chuckled and muttered, “Could he be jealous? Otherwise, why would he linger on that tree before leaving?”

Zachary felt an odd sense of unease. Despite being Serenity’s husband, albeit with no feelings involved, he had received nothing from her while Callum got a piece of her handiwork. He couldn’t bring himself to ask for one, yet he felt out of place without a copper wire plant on his desk. He felt oddly left out.
