Married at First Sight Serenity And Zachary York english, Indonesian
Chapter 113
“I brought all the gifts that Serenity and Zachary gave us last time into my room because I was so angry about this going Dutch issue,” Liberty said, taking a seat.
Serenity moved into the small kitchen, retrieved some fruit from the refrigerator, washed them, and offered them to Liberty, while Jasmine poured her a glass of warm water.
After Liberty took a few sips of water, she decided to open up about her troubles. She had come over feeling aggrieved and frustrated, seeking her sister’s support.
“If I didn’t find someone to talk to, I’m afraid I’d fall into depression,” Liberty confessed. “Besides, I’ve known Jasmine for years, so I trust her to keep a secret. When I woke up the next day, Hank had sent his family away, which was a relief. But before they left, they took all the gifts that Serenity and Zachary gave me.”
Liberty’s frustration was palpable. “My sister-in-law even took some of Sonny’s toys. I was furious when I found out, but Hank said we didn’t need those things, so he gave them all to his sister.”
Liberty continued, “Does his sister need those things? She and her husband have steady incomes, and my parents-in-law help them with their children. Their pensions and income are more than enough for their needs. Yet, Hank still gives them an allowance. Isn’t he just subsidizing his sister’s family?”
Liberty’s frustration grew as she spoke. “His sister and her husband live comfortably on his parents’ and Hank’s money. If Hank didn’t have a family to support and chose to spend money on his sister, that’d be one thing. But he has his own family, and we still have a mortgage. How can she have the nerve to use her brother’s money to support her family?”
Liberty was baffled by Hank’s behavior. Despite knowing that his parents were using his money to support his sister’s family, Hank continued to transfer money to his parents every month without complaint. Yet, he was so stingy with Liberty. This disparity was deeply troubling for her.
She was also upset with her in-laws, who had pretended to be kind before her marriage to Hank. They had deceived her for years, only to reveal their true colors once she married Hank, became pregnant, and had Sonny.
“It’s right for a son to support his parents, but why should he support his sister’s family? I’m not saying he shouldn’t help at all, but he should give less and save more for Sonny’s future. Instead, he suggested going halves, as if he’s spending a lot of his money,” Liberty lamented.
She regretted quitting her job and becoming a full-time housewife. Without a source of income, she felt diminished and less confident, her position in the household undermined. Fortunately, she could rely on her sister for support, so her immediate expenses were covered.
Jasmine was taken aback. “Most parents subsidize their sons. Why do Hank’s parents expect him to support his sister? It might make sense if she were struggling, but she’s not. She has a house, a car, and savings.”
Serenity, familiar with her brother-in-law’s family dynamics, took Sonny from Jasmine’s arms and said to Liberty, “You should start looking for a job now. I can take care of Sonny during the day. This way, if you decide to get a divorce in the future, you’ll have a source of income and can fight for Sonny’s custody more confidently.”
Jasmine was surprised but considered that Liberty might need to leave Hank eventually, given the situation with his money-hungry family.
Liberty looked at her son and said, “I’ll put up with them for a few more months. The New Year is coming, and then Sonny will start kindergarten. You can help by picking him up in the afternoon.”
She knew she needed to find a job soon. Even if she couldn’t land an executive role like before, her skills would help her secure a decent position.
