Matsushita Heikichi immediately nodded: “That’s right, that’s him, this is Guanghan Zhenren.”
The answer didn’t surprise Charlie, so he asked again, “Where is this person now?”
Matsushita Heikichi replied, “A real man should be in Wu Han Palace right now.”
“Wu Han Palace? Where is it located?”
After Wu Bolin proclaimed himself the Immortal of the Moon Palace, he treated all Japanese as his servants. Therefore, he specifically ordered Kikuchi Kohei to inform everyone of the research station’s name change and his self-proclaimed title of Immortal of the Moon Palace. Matsushita Heikichi accepted the order.
In response to Charlie’s question, he honestly answered, “Wu Han Palace is a Showa-era Japanese research station in Antarctica, only renamed by a real person.”
Charlie was both amused and annoyed. This elder was quite mischievous, even naming the Japanese research station with a name that sounded like a chuunibyou character. It seemed he also aspired to be a leader like Victoria.
Then, Charlie asked him, “Has Guanghan Zhenren been here recently?”
“No,” said Matsushita Heikichi. “He hasn’t returned since landing and going to the research station, but he sent someone a few days ago to transport some supplies.”
Charlie continued, “Do you know what he’s going to do in Antarctica?”
“I’m not so sure,” replied Matsushita Heikichi. “I only heard that Mashin has deployed several snowmobiles and a helicopter to scan the entire Antarctic continent with ice radar.”
“Ice radar? What does it do?”
Matsushita Heikichi said, “This instrument scans the structure beneath the ice sheet at a depth of two to four thousand meters, which can reveal the topography and structure beneath the ice sheet.”
“Under the ice sheet…”
Charlie frowned.
The elder instructed these Japanese people to explore the bottom of the ice sheet, so it seemed he didn’t realize that he and Maria Lin were there too.
But what’s so exciting about exploring the Antarctic ice sheet? Didn’t the ice sheet form millions of years ago? You probably won’t even find dinosaur fossils here.
He asked Matsushita Heikichi, “Do you know what he is looking for?”
“I don’t know,” Matsushita Heikichi said. “All I know is that they’re conducting explorations outside every day. Charlie frowned and asked, “Without fuel, will you be in trouble?”
“Yes,” Matsushita Heikichi said casually, “If we run out of fuel, we won’t last two days before freezing to death.”
Charlie sighed inwardly. This elder seemed to be a cruel executioner who didn’t care about these people’s lives to achieve his goals, and even hastened their deaths.
