US mechanized forces, featuring M1128 Stryker vehicles armed with 105mm cannons and M142 HIMARS, establish a “Net of Death” behind icebergs, their advanced radars scanning for Wu Bolin’s convoy. Meanwhile, the Japanese delegation, including Goro Watanabe, endures brutal conditions and inhumane facilities while stranded by the American military.

Deadly Traps Behind Icebergs: M1128 and M142 Await
Wu Bolin counted the days. He needed at least five more days to return to his safe haven, Wu Han Palace.
However, he did not know that bad luck was waiting for him ahead.
About an hour after Wu Bolin decided on his return route, a second US military transport fleet arrived at the ambush point.
This operation was no joke. There were no ordinary infantrymen running around in the snow. This operation was completely mechanized.
The sky rains down iron monsters: M1128 “Stryker” infantry fighting vehicles, M142 HIMARS rocket launchers, and advanced reconnaissance vehicles.
The M1128 is no ordinary vehicle. It’s equipped with heavy machine guns, automatic grenade launchers, and most terrifyingly, a 105mm tank gun.

Together with the M142 long-range rockets, they form an impenetrable “Net of Death.”
The reconnaissance vehicles turned on their high-powered radars. These radars are capable of detecting moving targets, even individual humans, within a radius of tens of kilometers in a snowstorm.
After landing, the iron monsters immediately took action. They hid behind a tall iceberg, shutting down their engines, but leaving their radars fully active.
They wait for the victim to come.
The Suffering of the Japanese Delegation
Meanwhile, the fate of the Japanese delegation, including Goro Watanabe, was very sad.
Their plane didn’t land at the comfort of McMurdo Station. They were dropped off in the middle of nowhere, waiting for the second wave.
After the transport planes unloaded the heavy equipment and left, Watanabe and his team were left there with the American soldiers.
As per military protocol, they must live inside cramped infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs).
For days, they ate bland army rations. To sleep, they had to curl up on hard iron chairs, stealing moments of shut-eye.
However, the greatest torture was not food or sleep, but the toilet.
Combat vehicles do not have toilets.
US soldiers dug holes in the snow to serve as makeshift toilets. To prevent freezing, the holes were equipped with simple diesel heaters.
Imagine having to defecate in the middle of an Antarctic storm. Without heating, you could get frostbite on your most intimate parts. And if you’re constipated? It’s the most cruel torture on earth.

Watanabe Goro felt like crying. He was a high-ranking ministry official, but now he was living like a war refugee.
He couldn’t escape. Outside was a frozen white death. He was trapped inside with the hot irons of a foreign army.
To further frustrate him, the arrogant American commander didn’t even get off the plane. He simply dropped off the troops and then flew back to his warm base in South America.
The Enemy is Approaching
Two days passed in that suffering.
In the distance, Wu Bolin’s snowmobile convoy slowly approached.
No one in Wu Bolin’s entourage realized that they were walking into the lion’s mouth.
When they were still tens of kilometers away, the American radar beeped. The target was locked.
In fact, the M142 HIMARS could have launched a rocket and blasted Wu Bolin to dust right then and there. But the Pentagon’s orders were clear: Capture Alive.
America wants to know two things:
- Why did Japanese scientists betray?
- How many enemies are left at Showa Station?
Wu Bolin, who didn’t know he was being targeted, began to feel at ease because there were no pursuers for two days.
Kohei Kikuchi also continued to monitor the situation via satellite phone. Reports from Showa Station (controlled by Wu Bolin’s puppet) indicated that everything was safe.
“Everything is normal, sir. There are no strangers,” Kikuchi reported.
Wu Bolin believed them completely. His puppets couldn’t possibly lie. He felt safe.
With no enemies ahead, no pursuers behind, he thought the road home was smooth.
But he was dead wrong. Five kilometers ahead, the muzzle of a 105mm tank gun was already pointed directly at his head.

Goro Watanabe’s Voice and the End of Wu Bolin’s Journey
The distance is now less than five kilometers.
Suddenly, Wu Bolin sensed something strange. His cultivator’s instincts screamed. He sensed a subtle vibration in the air, the vibration of giant diesel engines revving up simultaneously.
“Stop!” Wu Bolin shouted. “There are at least eight vehicles approaching us!”
Kohei Kikuchi was confused. He looked out at the empty expanse of snow.
“Really? From the outside everything looks normal, Masato.”
“No,” Wu Bolin’s face stiffened. “I feel really unwell. It feels like… I’m being stared at by a giant eye.”
“You mean… we’re locked in?” Kikuchi asked in a panic.
“Yes. Locked by enemy weapons.”
Kikuchi immediately turned pale. “Our vehicles are civilian vehicles. If they’re locked on by fighter radar, we’re doomed. We can’t escape.”
“Quick! Full speed back!” Wu Bolin ordered. “Turn south! We have to get out of their range!”
The snowmobile driver swerved frantically, spinning the vehicle on the slippery ice, trying to escape in the opposite direction.
Pincer Attack
Seeing the target trying to escape, the US troops no longer hid.
From behind the icy hills, a line of armored vehicles appeared simultaneously like ghosts. Strykers and reconnaissance vehicles charged in a pincer movement, encircling Wu Bolin from left and right.

Wu Bolin’s snowmobile radio hissed loudly. A military warning sounded.
“Attention, Japanese research team! We are the United States military. Immediately shut down your engines and stop for inspection! Or we will open fire!”
Kikuchi was shaking violently.
“It’s the US military, Masato! They’re threatening to shoot!”
Wu Bolin gritted his teeth in anger. “Damn it! They want to trap us like boiled dumplings!”
“Tell them!” Wu Bolin ordered. “We’re just a regular expedition team. We don’t want any trouble, but we have the right to refuse inspection!”
Kikuchi immediately grabbed the microphone and spoke in English nervously.
“Sir, we are researchers from Showa Station, Japan. We are on an official scientific mission. You have no right to inspect us!”
Voices from the Past
There was a moment of silence on the radio. Then, another voice spoke. One spoke in fluent, angry Japanese.
“Damn you! I’m Goro Watanabe from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology of Japan!”
The voice exploded like thunder in Kikuchi’s ears.
“The Ministry never issued a large-scale exploration mission this winter! Who exactly ordered you?! Do you know that you are now suspected of high treason?!”
Kohei Kikuchi’s face turned as white as a sheet.
He looked at Wu Bolin with a look of despair.
“Teacher… that’s Vice Minister Watanabe. Even an official as high up as him came directly here.”
Kikuchi swallowed. “The Japanese already know everything. They’re watching our every move.”
At that moment, Wu Bolin came to his senses.
His hopes of returning to Wu Han Palace were dashed.
Japan has already discovered the problem at its secret base. They won’t stop until they uncover it all.
Their initial plan to infiltrate and blend in with the Japanese researchers also failed miserably. Since the Japanese themselves were hunting them, their chances of escaping undetected were slim to none.
Wu Bolin stared at the expanse of ice now filled with enemy combat vehicles. Cold sweat ran down his back.
He asked Kikuchi in a low voice, full of despair.
“Kikuchi… if I run away alone now… can I still escape?”
