Chapter 13 – The Elder
He walked closer. Upon closer inspection, he saw that even the purple flowers across from the bluegrass had wilted, but not as badly as the bluegrass.
He clearly remembered that the herb was still healthy and strong during the day. How could it have become like this in just one afternoon? He picked up the bluegrass and examined it. From its appearance, it seemed to have lost all its moisture, causing it to wilt. He touched the soil, but it had the right moisture for growing herbs. He was utterly confused.
After a while, he suddenly thought, “Only one person visited me this afternoon. However, he’s only an honorary student, how could he possibly make the medicinal plants wither?”
After thinking for a moment, he decided to investigate the matter. Without a word, he waved his sleeve and his body began to float. Soon, he arrived at the place where the honor students were receiving their assignments.
Elder Sun shouted in a deep voice, “Which disciple here is in charge?” His voice was like thunder. The yellow-clothed disciple in charge quickly came over and knelt on the ground, kowtowing non-stop.
Elder Sun said impatiently, “Do you have Wang Lin’s registration?”
Disciple Liu’s heart pounded. He never expected that a high-ranking elder would come to ask about that trash, Wang Lin. He remembered the times he had bullied Wang Lin, and his face paled. “This disciple… has… has Brother Wang Lin’s registration. Brother Wang loves to study and is always serious about his work. This disciple… this disciple has always looked up to him as a role model.”
Elder Sun didn’t know whether to laugh or cry, but he knew deep down that this was a good thing. The more nervous someone was when speaking to him, the more they respected him. The title of elder was actually a very worthless title in the Heng Yue Sect. Almost all the second-generation disciples were addressed as elder by the honorary disciples, but all the inner disciples addressed him as Uncle-Master.
Although he was respected by the honorary students, he lacked power among the second generation. Even the third generation held him in low regard.
Otherwise, he wouldn’t have been given the pointless task of taking care of the request of an honor student who wanted to go home.
Elder Sun asked, “Which courtyard does Wang Lin live in?”
“In…in the courtyard of the Northern Earth Division…”
Without waiting for him to finish speaking, Elder Sun flew along the rainbow towards the north and disappeared in the blink of an eye.
Disciple Liu became increasingly nervous. His intestines were almost turning green. He swore that when he met Wang Lin again, he wouldn’t mock him, but instead praise him and treat him like his own grandfather. After all, he was someone an elder had personally asked for.
Elder Sun arrived at the Earth Division courtyard and didn’t see Wang Lin. He went to the registration office to find Wang Lin’s room number and then arrived at Wang Lin’s room. Zhang Hu was still asleep. He was snoring loudly and didn’t even notice Elder Sun was there.
Elder Sun examined the room carefully. He frowned and muttered, “He left pretty quickly. Hmm, I’ll check on him once he returns.”
Wang Lin was walking in the mountains with a talisman on his feet. The talisman was truly miraculous. After putting it on his feet, he felt a surge of warmth fill his body. A dazzling white light gathered at his feet, making him appear like an immortal.
When all the creatures on the mountain saw the white light, they all moved away. No one dared to approach.
The fresh mountain air blew against Wang Lin’s face. He was in a good mood and quickly headed home, following the route he had memorized.
One night passed, and dawn broke the next day. He took a sip of water from the gourd and felt refreshed. He realized he had left the mountain. Once he reached the village, he simply followed the small path back home.
Without stopping, he walked forward quickly. He entered a city where the sun was shining brightly and the crowd was bustling and busy. Wang Lin walked around for a while, bought gifts for his parents, and then left immediately.
Late in the day, Wang Lin finally arrived at the village. From a distance, he saw a red flag bearing the word “life” in front of his house.
Outside, there were many horse-drawn carriages. There was a large crowd of people.
Wang Lin was stunned when he arrived in front of his house. His arrival was too conspicuous. His relatives, who had come to celebrate his father’s birthday, only saw a flash of white light as Wang Lin appeared.
Everyone showed envious expressions as they started praising.
“Second brother, Wang Lin is back. Just look at how handsome this kid is! He looks like an immortal!”
“Isn’t that so? Even the Gods made mistakes and eventually regretted their decision and raised Wang Lin as their disciple. In the future, our Wang family will depend on these three children.”
“Because my eyes are old, I couldn’t see this kid’s strengths, but looking at him now, which part of him can’t compare to Wang Zhuo and Wang Hao? He’s clearly a dragon among men! Good, good, good!” the Wang family’s third uncle exclaimed, as if he had forgotten all the bad things he had said before.
“This child, Wang Lin, has always been smart since he was a child. I must say, even the gods made mistakes last time, so how could we mere mortals not make mistakes? Wang Lin, I hope you don’t hate your fifth uncle, your fifth uncle apologizes to you.”
All the relatives changed their expressions and showed friendly and smiling faces.
Wang Lin snorted coldly to himself. At that moment, his father appeared, startled, and tugged on Wang Lin’s arm. “Tie Zhu, why are you back? Didn’t I tell you to stay at the Heng Yue Sect? Don’t always worry about home.”
Wang Lin looked at his father and saw that the wrinkles on his face had reduced significantly. He was clearly very happy lately. “Dad, don’t worry. All sect disciples have three chances to return home a year. After your birthday is over, I’ll be right back.”
Wang Lin’s father proudly looked at the relatives around him and pulled Wang Lin to the door while shouting, “Wife, look who’s back!”
Wang Lin’s mother was surrounded by a group of sisters. When she heard her husband’s voice, she turned towards him and was surprised to see Wang Lin. She rushed over and began to ask about his condition.
