Chapter 28 – Homework
Among purple, black, white, and red, black represented a very high level of cultivation. Wang Lin couldn’t see his cultivation, so he respectfully said, “Wang Lin greets Brother Zhang. Congratulations to Senior on attaining the black garment.”
The black-clothed youth stared at Wang Lin and slowly said, “My success in breaking through to the fifth layer of Qi Condensation has a little to do with you. If I hadn’t found that cave while searching for you, I wouldn’t have been able to break through so quickly.”
Wang Lin was stunned and asked, “Brother Zhang, the hole with suction power in the cave can help with cultivation?”
The black-clothed youth nodded and said, “When you reach the peak of the fourth layer and need to use a spell to enter the fifth layer, go there yourself and you will see the effects.” He glanced at Wang Lin and said, “Brother Wang, there is no other way since your talent is mediocre, but since you are now a disciple, you must cultivate diligently. I see that you have no spiritual energy at all. You haven’t even reached the first layer of Qi Condensation. I’m afraid that of all the inner disciples, you are the only one.”
Wang Lin was stunned but smiled wryly, “I will follow apprentice brother’s advice. I will redouble my efforts in cultivating.” He suddenly changed the subject and asked, “Brother Zhang, what is your reason for coming here today?”
The black-clothed youth chuckled and said, “It’s nothing serious. The honorary student in charge of the chores house disappeared. Someone saw you go there that day, so I came here to ask about it.”
Wang Lin’s expression remained normal and he laughed, “I have a feeling about what happened. Normally, I don’t go to the chores, but half a month ago, I passed by and an honorary disciple was talking behind my back, so I taught him a lesson. Maybe he got scared of me and left the sect.”
Brother Zhang nodded his head, half laughing. He looked at Wang Lin and said, “A disgusting honorary disciple is nothing. Today, I came to you because the elders have decided that an honorary disciple should not be in charge of the chore house, so they want an inner disciple to take over. However, none of the inner disciples are willing to leave; they are all busy cultivating.”
Wang Lin smiled wryly, “I understand. It seems that the task has been given to me.”
Brother Zhang smiled faintly and said, “Pack your things and go there today. Right now, the workhouse is a complete mess. You need to tidy it up.”
He cupped his hands toward Wang Lin, took a step, and a sword appeared beneath his feet. The sword glowed with rainbow colors as he rode on it.
Wang Lin showed a frustrated expression. He didn’t want to go to the task house. The people there were too nosy; it would be easy for his secret to be discovered. Furthermore, there would be a lot of work that would disrupt his cultivation. But now, he couldn’t help but go. With a stomach full of anger, he packed his things and arrived at the task house.
Upon arriving there, he made a decision in his heart. He couldn’t stay in the task house for long. He had to disrupt everything there so that every honor student could go to the elders and request a replacement.
With this in mind, Wang Lin cleaned up Liu’s student room. Apart from the bed and table, everything useless was thrown out.
As he did this, several disciples arrived at the task house. They learned that Wang Lin was now in charge of assigning tasks, so many of them were nervous. The faces of some of those who had mocked Wang Lin the most were pale, and their hearts were pounding.
Several people intended to help Wang Lin clean up, but after being glared at, they all obediently stood in the yard.
After finishing cleaning up, Wang Lin sat down leisurely on a chair. He stared coldly at the over 100 honorary disciples before him. He knew that the Heng Yue Sect had many honorary disciples. This was only a small portion of them. In the next few days, more honorary disciples would return to report on their work.
“Now you will chop 500 pounds of firewood!” Wang Lin casually pointed at someone. He remembered that person had been secretly mocking him.
The man was stunned. He immediately shouted, “Brother Wang, I… I used to work in the kitchen. I don’t know how to chop wood.”
Wang Lin rolled his eyes. He snorted, “Now it’s 1000 pounds a day!”
The boy suddenly knelt on the ground and began to cry. “Brother Wang, you’re a good person. I shouldn’t have mocked you back then. But please, don’t be too vengeful. I… I… I can’t possibly lift 1,000 pounds, how about 500 pounds?”
The people around him looked at each other. They all knew Wang Lin would make things difficult, but this was clearly revenge.
Several honorary disciples among the crowd shouted in discontent. “Everyone, don’t listen to him. Let’s find an elder and have them uphold justice. Wang Lin is too arrogant.”
“Right. Let’s go find the elders and get another inner disciple to lead this place. If they don’t listen to us, we’ll kneel and never rise again.”
“Right. Let’s go, everyone. Don’t stay here. This Wang Lin has a sinister look. He doesn’t even remember that he entered the Sect by attempting suicide. What a disgrace.”
The voices of discontent grew louder. Soon, everyone left the courtyard shouting insults. They all looked dejected as they walked toward the courtyard, all shouting things like, “Wang Lin doesn’t want us to live anymore.”
Wang Lin felt at ease. He didn’t stop them, hoping they would succeed. This way, the elders would be angry and have someone else take over, allowing him to concentrate on cultivating.
The remaining ten people were still hesitant. They wanted to leave, but if this failed, wouldn’t that mean they had completely disrespected Wang Lin?
Wang Lin was in no hurry. He waited for the results from the main courtyard. A moment later, all the honorary disciples returned gloomily, one by one. This time, they were no longer shouting, but their eyes were filled with despair and silence.
Wang Lin saw their expressions and knew they had failed. He was extremely disappointed. It seemed he would have to make a bigger fuss. Thinking about it, he scanned the crowd and said, “All of you who secretly mock me, listen to me. I’m here today to take revenge. If you’re dissatisfied, go to the elders. If you can remove me from this position, I’ll have to thank you.”
One of the students pleaded, “Brother Wang, you are a great person. Please forgive us.”
“Yes, Brother Wang, we were blind back then. Please give us a chance. I… I will kowtow to you.”
“Brother Wang, they all mocked you back then, but I never did. I even defended you. I…”
